Yes.
They literally have and continue to profit from the dismantling of society and malicious psychological manipulation at the scale of billions.
Twitter too. Arguably without the billions part.

Please fund more transit for people instead of pernicious capitalist nightmares for rich sycophants.

Finally.
@maloki I _love_ this idea.
What are the societal benefits of distributing (and moderating?) content this way?
Does ActivityPub solve any of the inherent problems of the centralized, for-profit gate keepers, or would it further complicate matters?
How do we ensure marginalized groups get a safe space and a voice in a distributed ‘open’ network like this?
On a micro level, what are some effective talking points or methods of convincing regular folks to try ActivityPub/Masto/PixelFed/etc?
Facebook Messenger still scans all messages, even with end-to-end encryption. Scanning is done locally on the device before text messages are sent and after received messages are decrypted.
Facebook privacy lol
Since the topic of #censorship is going around again, it might be a good time to brush up on a PSA about how censorship and platforms work.
@ZeldAurore @maloki American Horror Story.
@glitterwitch @maloki At least one, and I think both of the Chicago ComicCons recently introduced a Quiet Room away from the event floor. The rule is strictly enforced. It's proved very popular way to get a break from the floor.
@maloki IMO: Telegram is more interesting and has more useful features, depending on what you want to do.
But IIRC you also have manually set each new conversation to be E2E; it isn't E2E by default.
As I understand it, Signal is 100% E2E.

Hey, everyone who uses #PixelFed. Did you know @dansup runs a Patreon to help fund development?
Please consider kicking in a $ or $$ to help make PixelFed even better: https://www.patreon.com/dansup/
I’ve been experimenting with #Hyperspektiv for iPhone on my bike rides into #Chicago’s downtown. I don’t have a strong grasp on its effects yet, but it is at least fun. #glitch #GlitchArt #GlitchPhotography #photography [3 photos] https://pixelfed.social/p/chartier/21625353835515904

This is good content. Well done @maxeddy 👍🏻🙌🏻🥃
Turns out the customer didn’t have a concept of a right click because of this. They found the setting and tried my original instructions. A whole world of functionality just opened up to them.
Turns out a supposedly basic feature most of probably take for granted just wasn’t a thing for this customer, and it caused all kinds of confusion and surely frustration. I certainly didn’t know it was possible for right click to be disabled these days.
Good lesson in tech empathy and perspective.
