β² @nivex@octodon.social: #IPv6 is the metric system of the Internet. Once you get it, it's way easier, but nobody wants to upend things to use it on the daily.

Back in my networking classes in the 1990s, they told us that odd numbered versions of the IP protocol are experimental, while even numbered versions are deployed / deployable. #IPv4 vs #IPv6 -

NetworkManager gives IPv4 DNS resolvers priority over #IPv6 by default. I think I've finally found a workaround.
Add the following to /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
[connection]
ipv4.dns-priority=100
ipv6.dns-priority=1Restart NetworkManager and DNS should be in the proper order.
As with all changing of the defaults, there may be unintended side-effects. We shall see.

@mwlucas Oh look, another article about #IPv6 on a website that has no AAAA records. And they're using Akamai, so they have no excuse.

@staticsafe Clearly they have time to do this because their #IPv6 support is perfect! </sarcasm>

Many Linux distros are deprecating 32-bit CPU support. Can we deprecate 32-bit IP address support at the same time?

!FNetworks notice: since #IPv6 is broken upstream of our hosting, I removed AAAA records. Should be no issues resulting, but any DNS change can cause some temporary problems. -

@iliana @rey I'll stick to #IPv6 where I can have ::69, ::420, or any combination thereof in every imaginable network :)

so last night I set up my OpenVPN server to provide IPv6 connectivity to VPN clients so now I can have v6 connectivity when I'm on mobile data :D
pretty easy to do, just needed a routed /64 from Linode and then configuring OpenVPN like here

@ND3JR You can get free accounts with both and start poking now to see how things work out. There are test numbers for basic connectivity checks.
I still have free accounts on both, but I tend to use the Callcentric account more because of the aforementioned freebies.
Sadly no VoIP service I've found yet supports #IPv6.

As an academic exercise, I started looking at e-mail providers in case I ever want to get out of the biz of hosting my own.
I don't want to use Google Domains because evil empire.
The two I already knew about, Fastmail and Protonmail, will let you bring your own domain. Great!
Oh, wait. Neither of those two have #IPv6 support. *sigh*
